Will specialises in criminal defence, immigration and associated public law challenges.

He is an experienced trial advocate with a broad practice in general crime, financial crime and extradition. Will has a particular expertise in cases engaging human rights issues, including modern slavery, public order and protest.

Criminal Defence

Will regularly represents clients in the Crown Court, Youth Court, and Magistrates’ Court, as well as appearing  in the Court of Appeal and the High Court in respect of a range of offences. He has successfully defended young people and adults, including those charged with serious assaults, sexual offences, possession of drugs and weapons, and robbery.

Protest Rights

Will has developed a particular specialism in protest and public order cases. As a pupil, he assisted Tom Wainwright in the trial of the Colston Four. He has since represented individuals in the Crown Court and the Magistrates’ Court, who protest in support of a range of causes, including Extinction Rebellion, Just Stop Oil, Insulate Britain, Black Lives Matter and Palestine Action.

Youth Justice & Child Rights

Will is experienced in representing vulnerable child defendants, who are often in care and have mental health issues. He has acted for youth clients in the Crown Court and often acts in complex cases on certificates for counsel in the Youth Court. Will has particular experience acting in cases involving victims of trafficking and modern slavery, and those suffering from mental disorders.

Financial Crime and Confiscation

Will accepts instructions in fraud and confiscation cases. As a solicitor, Will acted on a number of complex international fraud and asset tracing cases involving, among other things, insider trading, market manipulation, money laundering and bribery. He is experienced in analysing complex, paper-heavy cases, often spanning multiple jurisdictions. He has experience advising on Companies Act offences, as well as POCA related matters, including property and account freezing orders.

Asylum and Extradition

Will accepts instructions in both extradition and asylum and is currently acting on a number of complex political asylum cases. He has worked on a number of complex Part 2 extradition cases. As a solicitor, Will advised on and prepared asylum claims for a number of politically exposed individuals and dissidents across a range of jurisdictions. He also advised on the attendant risks of extradition and issues relating to INTERPOL Red Notices and Diffusions.

Background

Will has a busy criminal practice representing clients accused of a range of criminal offences and appears regularly in the youth, magistrates’ and Crown Court. He has particular expertise in representing youth clients, especially victims of modern slavery and trafficking.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Will was a Solicitor Advocate at a city firm, where he developed a varied practice. Will has significant experience in the areas of fraud and asset tracing, money laundering, bribery and corruption, as well as litigation in the areas of asylum, extradition, and human rights. As a barrister, he has completed a secondment to Kingsley Napley LLP, where he worked principally on complex Part 2 extradition cases, as well as POCA proceedings in the High Court.

Will is committed to pro bono work and promoting access to justice. He has volunteered for numerous advice centres and pro bono projects, through which he has assisted vulnerable clients with a range of issues, from immigration and homelessness to child abuse and domestic violence. Will has on several occasions volunteered on death row in Louisiana, USA, where he assisted defence attorneys with their clients’ capital appeals. Will continues to provide training to prospective death row volunteers.
