A significant number of people are made subject to immigration detention or serve sentences of imprisonment in the UK. It is well documented that they often have poor mental health and complex care needs which must be met by the state during their detention and on their release.
This seminar will cover:
- Identifying the legal and ethical issues
- How duties to provide care, support, and necessary safeguarding ought to be discharged
- How failures can be effectively challenged
- Individuals who are subject to immigration detention, and the specific care and safeguarding issues which arise during their detention and upon their release
- Individuals serving sentences of imprisonment and the particular problems which arise for those with complex health needs
