As part of an event series on Children and Trafficking, this will be an in-person-only event at Garden Court Chambers followed by drinks. The registration and welcome will start at 6pm, while the roundtable discussion will start at 6.15pm and finish at 8pm.
The talk will cover when judicial review (JR) can or should be used in criminal cases, and cover the basics of how to bring a JR with a criminal legal aid contract.
The panel will also discuss the types of decisions that can be challenged, with a focus on victims of trafficking. This discussion will cover the decisions by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as to whether to prosecute (versus abuse of process), the duties local authorities owe to victims of trafficking, and when and how these should be challenged.
