Amanda Weston KC, Garden Court Chambers
Amanda is a leading public and administrative law silk. She co-authors Judicial Review: A Practical Guide (Lexis Nexis) and is a member of the ‘A’ Panel of preferred Counsel who act for the Equality & Human Rights Commission. Amanda has acted in hundreds of asylum and human rights appeals including in high-profile and sensitive cases and those involving extradition. Her cases include gender and sexuality cases, complex political and religious cases and appeals for children and vulnerable adults. Amanda also acts in cases in the Family Division, Administrative Court and appeal courts where the rights of children and young people are in play. Her particular areas of ‘crossover’ expertise involve safeguarding, local authority corporate parenting duties, education and disability, deprivation of liberty, immigration and citizenship matters and sensitive cross-cultural areas including FGM, 'radicalisation', trafficking and forced marriage. She operates a 'trauma informed' practice.
Ollie Persey, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
Ollie has a broad public law practice focusing on the rights of children, asylum seekers & migrants and disabled people. He has expertise in discrimination, education, community care, mental health and Court of Protection matters. He is ranked in Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 and was a finalist for a ‘Junior of the Year’ award at the Legal 500 Awards 2022 for his work in his core practice areas. He is the consultant editor of the latest edition of the highly regarded practitioner text, Halsbury’s Laws on Judicial Review, and a contributing author of the Legal Action Group textbook, Discrimination in Public Law. He co-convenes Garden Court’s community care and education law teams.
Emma Fitzsimons, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
Emma Fitzsimons is an immigration and public law barrister, practising in immigration and asylum, unlawful detention, trafficking, age assessments and community care. Emma has particular strength in representing vulnerable clients. She regularly appears on behalf of unaccompanied minors, trafficking victims and vulnerable adults in the First-tier Tribunal, Upper Tribunal and Administrative Court. She also has experience of successfully acting in urgent removal cases. She is a contributing author to the leading immigration practitioner text, Macdonald's Immigration Law and Practice.
Tessa Buchanan, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers
Tessa specialises in housing, community care, and administrative and public law. She has particular expertise in community care cases involving children, care leavers, and accommodation issues. She is an author of Migrant Support Handbook (Legal Action, 2023), Housing Allocation and Homelessness (Lexis Nexis, 2022), Housing Law Handbook (Law Society, 2020), and Gypsy and Traveller Law (Legal Action, 2019). She won Legal Aid Barrister of the Year at the 2021 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards.
