Sonali Naik KC, Garden Court Chambers
Sonali Naik KC (1991 call, 2018 silk) specialises in public law cases and in all aspects of immigration, asylum and nationality law and practice. Sonali acted in the successful Rwanda litigation (AAA and others) in the Supreme Court, and in the leading case on internal relocation in the asylum context: AS (Afghanistan) v SSHD [2019] WLR 5345. She regularly advises on and acts in public law policy challenges and test cases in this field. Most recently she represented UNHCR in a challenge to the refugee child family reunion policy. She was one of the winners of a Highly Commended Award at the Lawyer Awards 2022 for a pro bono initiative to assist Afghan judges secure UK visas. In 2023, she chaired the JUSTICE working group on Reforming the Afghan Resettlement Schemes. In 2023, Sonali was listed in The Lawyer magazine’s Hot 100 list, which recognises excellence in the legal profession.

David Jones, Garden Court Chambers
David is an accomplished immigration and human rights practitioner with over 20 years of experience. He has developed an extraordinary level of expertise in all areas of immigration, human rights, EU Free Movement, and nationality law, as well as an expanding practice in managed and business migration. David has regularly appeared at all tiers of the Courts, from the Immigration Asylum Chamber through the High Court and Court of Appeal up to the European Court of Human Rights. He has been at the vanguard of proceedings seeking to attain equality of treatment for Foreign National offenders, particularly regarding access to early release programs and resisting enforcement action. In November 2022, David appeared at the Joint Committee on Human Rights in Parliament as a witness to submit evidence in the first session of its new inquiry into the human rights of asylum seekers.

Adrian Berry, Garden Court Chambers
Adrian’s practice spans a range of inter-related public law areas concerning citizenship, immigration, human rights, international protection, and social assistance. He provides advice and representation in matters arising under the 1951 Refugee Convention, the Refugee Qualification Directive (2004/83/EC) and the European Convention on Human Rights. Adrian also handles general immigration law issues, advising clients on entering and remaining in the UK under the Immigration Rules and exploring options outside of these rules. He acts for clients who are unlawfully detained, those facing deportation as 'foreign criminals' or involved in removal proceedings, requiring detailed knowledge of the Immigration Act 1971. Additionally, Adrian consults for NGOs and international organisations on strategic litigation and policy reform, and writes a blog on migration, citizenship, and free movement called Cosmopolis. He is widely known, not just for his casework, but also for his policy work and contribution to debates on immigration and nationality law.
