What are the advantages of becoming a "looked after child"?
This seminar will deal with how to obtain accommodation outside of the Housing Acts, in particular under Children Act 1989, National Assistance Act 1948 and Mental Health Act 1983. It will provide an update on recent case-law, including G v Southwark LBC [2009] UKHL 26 (s 20 duty to homeless young person) and case-law on s 21 National Assistance Act 1948 since R (M) v Slough LBC [2008] UKHL 52.
Although some references will be made to accommodation issues for persons from abroad, this seminar will not focus on persons from abroad, as they are to be dealt with in the seminar on the 15.10.2009.
