Tessa Buchanan, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers (Call: 2012) (Chair)
Tessa is a social welfare law practitioner with particular expertise in the fields of community care, housing, homelessness, Gypsy and Traveller Law, and public law. Her practice is primarily publicly funded. She regularly represents clients in a wide range of hearings in the County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. She is a co- author of Housing Allocation and Homelessness: Law and Practice (fifth edition, Lexis Nexis, 2018) and a contributing author to Gypsy and Traveller Law (third edition: Legal Action Group, 2019), the Housing Law Handbook (second edition: forthcoming) and the Migrant Support Handbook (first edition: forthcoming). She is a member of the EHRC panel of preferred counsel.
Liz Davies, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers (Call: 1994)
Liz is ranked as a "Star Individual" in social housing by the Chambers UK Bar Guide. She is widely recognised as a leading authority in homelessness law and the allocation of social housing. She is the co-author of ‘Housing Allocation and Homelessness, Law & Practice’ (5th ed, 2018). She was instructed as the housing specialist as part of a team of counsel representing survivors and bereaved families in the Grenfell Tower Fire Inquiry. Liz is also appointed to the Equality and Human Rights Commission's preferred Panel of Counsel (Panel A).
Justine Compton, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers (Call: 2005)
Justine has specialised in housing law (as a solicitor and barrister) for over 20 years. She specialises in complex homelessness cases and possession claims involving vulnerable tenants. She also has particular experience in anti-social behaviour matters and succession cases. She is regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor.
Her Publications include ‘A devastating blow to social housing in England’ (Compton and Davies, LAG July 2016) and ‘The Equality Act 2010 and transgender tenants’ (Compton, Mullins and Sanchez, LAG December 2017). She was the script adviser on two short films produced by Centrepoint/Fully Focused Productions, which premiered at BAFTA in 2017.
