Presented by Kent Law Society, this course will consider the impact of the Children and Families Act 2014 on current care and adoption proceedings, in particular applications for expert evidence and extensions to the 26-week limit. It will also consider how the Act is being interpreted in light of the case law that has emerged from the Supreme Court ruling in Re B (Care proceedings:Appeal) 2013 UKSC 33, in particular, the evolution of 'holistic analysis' and 'proportionality evaluations'. Areas covered include:

- Current approach to interim removal of children
- Contact whilst in care and post adoption contact
Speakers
Maggie Jones is an experienced family law barrister with expertise in representing parents, children and guardians in public law proceedings. She regularly acts in cases involving allegations of physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence and neglect. She often represents vulnerable clients, including those with mental health difficulties.
Chris McWatters focuses on public and private children's law, as well as domestic violence. He also has experience of international child abduction and financial remedies.
Stephen Lue specialises in family law and, in relation to his public law practice, has experience representing parents, guardians, local authorities, grandparents and parties making special guardianship applications. He is regularly instructed in cases which involve issues of neglect, drug use, mental health problems, and physical and emotional abuse.
