Alex Taylor-Camara represented the defendant in a minimum sentencing case concerning the possession of a firearm. The young defendant was charged with possession of a firearm recovered following a search of an outbuilding attached to his home.
The firearm was recovered inside a glove belonging to the defendant. The firearm had the defendants DNA on both sides of the handle of the firearm, matched at one billion to one.
The defence case was that expert evidence could not exclude indirect transfer of his DNA from the glove to the firearm. There were multiple contributors to the DNA recovered but only one major full profile identified which matched the defendant.
After a four-day trial the jury unanimously acquitted the defendant of possession of the firearm.
