A High Court Judge has now been appointed to hear the inquest into the death of former KGB agent and Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko. At a pre-inquest review today, the judge agreed to consider the role of the Russian State in causing his death, and promised that the inquest will start in early 2013.
Mr Litvinenko died in 1 November 2006 in London after apparently being poisoned with the radioactive isotope polonium 210.
The case has received widespread media coverage, including by Channel 4, the BBC, The Guardian and The Telegraph in Sydney.
Maya Sikand, who is being led by Ben Emmerson QC, will be junior counsel to Mr Litvinenko's wife at the inquest. Maya is a member of the Garden Court Inquests Team.
