We are delighted to announce that Amanda Meusz of the Garden Court Chambers Family Team has been shortlisted for the Family Law Case of the Year Award at the Family Law Awards 2022.
Amanda acted for the children's guardian in the Supreme Court case of H-W (Children) (No 2) [2022] UKSC 17 handed down on 15 June 2022. She was led by Cyrus Larizadeh QC of 4PB Family Law and instructed by David Barney & Co.
The case concerned the proper approach when considering whether final care orders should be made, and in determining the proportionality of the order, the importance of considering all available options and the measures which could reasonably be taken to mitigate any harm or risk of harm. Further details about the case can be found on the Supreme Court website and in the Times Law Reports.
This is the second year in a row that members of our Family Law Team have been shortlisted for Family Law Case of the Year. In 2021, Amanda Weston QC was shortlisted for the Court of Appeal case of H-N and Others [2021] EWCA Civ 448, a test case on whether there should be amendments to the procedure adopted by the Family Courts in private law cases under the Children Act in which domestic abuse, including coercive control, is in issue.
Naomi Wiseman of the Garden Court Chambers Family Law Team has also been shortlisted this year for Family Law Junior Barrister of the Year for her work overseeing the passing of the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022, which saw the minimum age of marriage raised to 18 from 16, ending child marriage in England and Wales.
The Family Law Awards will be held on 28 November at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London. The full shortlist can be viewed here.
