Stephen Knafler QC and Tim Baldwin's joint advice to MIND on changes to section 117 of the Mental Health Act 1983, originally proposed by the Health and Social Care Bill, assisted amendments to the bill made by Lord Kamlesh Patel of Bradford. As a result the Government accepted the amendments tabled in the House of Lords which now protects vital aftercare for people who have been detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.
