A jury has reached a damning verdict in relation to the state's role in the killing of Colette Lynch. Colette aged 24 died in February 2005 after being stabbed to death by her partner Percy Wright outside her home in Rugby with their two year old daughter in his arms. The stabbing happened just days after Colette had called the police requesting urgent help after being threatened by Percy Wright.
In what is thought to be the first inquest to consider state failings to protect the life of a woman facing domestic violence, the jury held that a a number of failings by the police, mental health services and social services contributed to Colette's death.
Colette Lynch's family were represented by Rajeev Thacker of Garden Court Chambers solicitor, Sarah Ricca of Deighton Guedalla and Karon Monaghan QC from Matrix. Her family will now be proceeding with a civil claim against the authorities involved.
