Bethan Harris appeared in a serious medical treatment case in the Court of Protection on 10 January 2013, representing the family of a young woman with learning difficulties.
Hedley J ruled that she had capacity to decide for herself as to whether to continue or terminate her pregnancy, and ruled that it was important to remember that even if a person lacked mental capacity in some areas of life, they may retain the capacity to make deeply personal decisions for themselves, such as in relation to pregnancy and sexual relations.
Bethan Harris is a member of Garden Court Chambers Court of Protection Team.
