Anthony Small has been found not guilty of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts. The former boxing champion was represented by Michael Ivers and Alex Rose of the Garden Court Chambers Crime Team.
Anthony Small was cleared of disseminating terrorist publications and supporting a prescribed group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant. It was alleged that the defendant put boxing gloves and a championship belt on eBay to raise money to travel to Syria in order to fight with the Islamic State.
This case has been reported in the media, including by the BBC and The Telegraph
Mr Small was also cleared of conspiracy to possess false identification documents with improper intention.
Mr Small had been arrested after co-defendants Michael Coe and Simon Keeler were found with false documents in a lorry in November 2014. They will be sentenced at a later date. Mr Small, who was not with Michael Coe and Simon Keeler when they were arrested at the port of Dover, told the court that he intended to visit his Turkish ex-wife in Sweden due to a family emergency.
The jury could not agree on the final charge against Mr Small of supporting a terrorist organisation. The prosecution has until Friday to decide whether to pursue it.
Michael Ivers and Alex Rose are members of the Garden Court Crime Team and were instructed by Matt Foot of Birnberg Peirce and Partners.
