Grace Brown of Garden Court is representing the claimant, Hubert Howard, and is instructed by Connie Sozi at Deighton Pierce Glynn.
Coverage in The Guardian.
Windrush scandal victim, Hubert Howard, now 62, arrived in the UK in 1960 at the age of 3 and has not left the UK since. Previously, he had been refused British citizenship because he failed to satisfy the good character requirement due to a conviction, for which a 12-month suspended sentence was imposed, on 05 June 2018. He had been trying to regularise his status in the UK for the previous 13 years.
Mr Howard, who is critically ill, was finally granted British citizenship in October 2019 after his lawyers highlighted the seriousness of his health problems. His family say that the U-turn on his citizenship decision came too late, and that the stress caused by his battle with the Home Office has contributed to his ill-health. Mr Howard remains seriously ill in hospital and his family are calling for an apology and compensation from the Home Office.
This case has been reported in the media including the Guardian.
Grace Brown is a member of the Garden Court Chambers Immigration Team.
