At a pre-inquest review, Coronor Alan Craze has said that he owes it to the community to investigate the public safety measures that could be used at Camber Sands, the beach where seven people died this summer.
Patrick Roche of Garden Court Chambers represents five of the deceased: Kenugen Saththiyanathan and his brother Kobikanthan Saththiyanathan, and their friends Nitharsan Ravi, Inthushan Sriskantharasa, and Gurushanth Srithavarajah.
The five men died at Camber Sands, near Hastings, East Sussex, in August. Patrick Roche told the hearing that there had been two deaths and seven “near deaths” in the past four years, in addition to the deaths this summer. Patrick suggested that a witness appeal could help since only one witness has come forward following the tragedy.
The case has been reported by the BBC and the Guardian.
Patrick Roche is a member of Garden Court Chambers Inquests Team. He is instructed in the case by Marcia Willis Stewart of Birnberg Peirce & Partners.
