Two men facing charges of violent disorder and actual bodily harm (ABH) arising out of a May Day demonstration by an alleged anarchist group at HSBC Bank in Cardiff have been found not guilty.
The men were alleged to have attacked police officers during the protest leading to, what the prosecution called, ‘a serious piece of mob violence’. The first defendant, represented by Owen Greenhall, was captured on CCTV striking a kneeling police officer in the head with his knee. Both defendants stated that they acted to protect themselves from unlawful police violence including being threatened with a taser. Following a nine-day trial, both defendants were acquitted of all charges.
