Connor Johnston gave evidence to the Justice Select Committee this morning, together with Sara Stephens of Anthony Gold, representing the Housing Law Practitioners Association, and John Gallagher representing Shelter.
The subject of the session was the effect of the legal aid cuts introduced by the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 in the area of housing law. Sara, John and Connor asked the Committee to consider reinstating legal aid to assist with housing benefit problems where the individual’s home is at risk, citing the false economy of this cut which puts tenants at risk of losing their home unnecessarily.
