Alex Grigg of the Garden Court Immigration and Public Law Teams was instructed on behalf of Habib Bazaboko by Cyrielle Vallet Simond and Toufique Hossain of Duncan Lewis Solicitors.
Habib Bazaboko was due to be deported from Britain to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Friday 12 April on a 6.15pm flight despite having lived in the UK since since he was 11 years old. This was the second time he had been within hours of deportation within a week.
Initially he had been due to fly last Saturday. However, following representations by his legal team the Home Office cancelled his removal at the last minute. He was then booked to board a flight today, but urgent work by his lawyers Alex Grigg of Garden Court, and Cyrielle Vallet Simond and Toufique Hossain of Duncan Lewis, secured him another reprieve. At lunchtime the Upper Tribunal issued an order preventing his removal, saying a new report about the dangers of returning to DRC "amounts to potentially significant further evidence which needs to be considered."
