We are delighted to announce that David Neale is a joint winner of Legal Aid Support Staffer of the Year at the 2022 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards.
This is a new Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year award category for 2022.
Our warmest congratulations to David for this outstanding achievement.
David Neale is a former barrister and now Legal Researcher at Garden Court Chambers. He is described by referees as a ‘legend and absolute saint’.
In addition to providing expert legal research and analysis to Garden Court, David works closely with Breaking the Chains, a joint Shpresa Programe and The Migrant and Refugee Children's Legal Unit team project to improve outcomes for young Albanian refugees. He supports them with a variety of publicly funded asylum casework. Working closely with Albanian asylum-seeking children, they call him 'our Einstein' and say 'he makes you feel safe'.
David is a co-General Editor of Macdonald’s Immigration Law & Practice, Assistant Consultant Editor of the British Nationality Volume of Halsbury’s Laws of England, a contributor to Butterworths Immigration Law Service, and writes a regular column on immigration for Legal Action Magazine. With Jennifer Blair of the Helen Bamber Foundation, he co-authored ‘Bridging a Protection Gap: Disability and the Refugee Convention’ in 2021, a comprehensive guide to the impact of disability on refugee claims, and hosted a seminar for lawyers at which this paper was launched.
David jointly won the Legal Aid Support Staffer of the Year award with Lesley Kennedy Neal, practice secretary at Wilsons Solicitors.
