Anya Lewis of Garden Court Chambers’ Fraud, Confiscation and Regulatory Law Team, represented the defendant, ID.
ID was one of four defendants to be acquitted after a six-week trial at Southwark Crown Court. The first defendant was convicted and is due to be sentenced with three others who pleaded guilty to defrauding the Department of Work and Pensions of just short of £1 million worth of ‘Access to Work’ funding.
The defendant, along with three others on trial, was profoundly deaf and the trial was interpreted via a relay of four British Sign Language Interpreters.
Anya Lewis was instructed by Martin Ingle of David Rubie Mitchell & Co.
