A woman has been acquitted of conspiracy to defraud by a jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court. The defendant was represented by Alex Taylor-Camara of the Garden Court Chambers Fraud, Confiscation and Regulatory Law Team.
The defendant and co-defendant Karl Quinlan were accused of conspiring with the defendant’s ex-partner to defraud George Davies of nearly £300,000 in a five-year ‘boiler room fraud’. The defendant’s ex-partner pleaded guilty.
The case has been covered in the local media.
Mr Davies was contacted by phone and email by a cold-caller who claimed they could help him invest in shares. He was persuaded to transfer £282,000 into an international bank account in Mr Quinlan’s name.
The defendant claimed she did know about her ex-partner’s dealings with Mr Davies and said that he was “overpowering” and “very good at pressuring people.”
Mr Quinlan was also acquitted.
Alex Taylor-Camara was instructed by Mary Monson Solicitors.
