Two men faced a total of four charges of assaulting police officers during the eviction of a protest occupation at the Aylesbury housing estate in February 2015.
The case was listed for a two-day trial at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court. By lunchtime on the first day, all charges had been dismissed by District Judge Sawtez due to deficiencies in the identification evidence. The Judge was critical of the failure by the CPS to review video footage obtained by police evidence gatherers.
The eviction received national media coverage, including the BBC, The Guardian and The Evening Standard.
Both defendants were represented by Owen Greenhall of the Garden Court Crime Team. He was instructed by Samantha Broadley of Bindmans Solicitors.
Tom Copeland of the Garden Court Crime Team, also instructed by Bindmans Solicitors, acted for another protestor whose case was discontinued by the CPS on the morning of her trial.
Tim Baldwin of the Garden Court Housing Team acted for the protestors and residents in the possession proceedings related to this case. He was instructed by Edward Sharp of Hodge Jones and Allen Solicitors.
