In an article for the The Barrister magazine, published online today, Garden Court's Dexter Dias QC, presently on a Research Fellowship at Harvard, argues against the over-reliance placed on prison by the criminal justice system.
With over 85,000 people in custody in England and Wales - which is close to the record high - and 19,000 people sharing cells designed for single occupation, Dexter argues that we need to think again about custody and draws some lessons from his research at Harvard University.
