Garden Court's Dexter Dias QC has been instructed to act for the family of Cherry Groce, a black mother of six who was shot in her home by the Metropolitan Police.
It was an event that triggered the 1985 Brixton Riots and constitutes a landmark moment in relations between minority ethnic groups and the police. The Groce family has finally been granted legal aid after a difficult struggle, necessitating a public petition that was signed by over 100,000 fellow citizens. The inquest will take place in London this June.
Dexter will work with Mark Scott, Raju Bhatt and Clare Richardson of Bhatt Murphy. Cherry Groce's family is also supported by Deb Coles of INQUEST, with whom Dexter and Garden Court have worked closely over the years.
