Owen Greenhall, of the Garden Court Protest Team, acted for an Extinction Rebellion protestor, instructed by Jane Cleasby of Kellys Solicitors. He co-defended with Raj Chada, Laura O’Brien and Francesca Cociani of HJA solicitors.
Owen Greenhall of the Garden Court Protest Team acted for an extinction rebellion protester who was found not guilty by a jury for breaking windows at HSBC.
The nine women defendants, part of the Money Rebellion offshoot of XR, broke windows using hammers and chisels painted in the colours of the suffragettes from whom they drew inspiration. The action was a protest at HSBC’s investment of £80 billion in fossil fuels in the 5 years since the Paris Agreement. The defendants argued that they had a lawful excuse for their acts.
The case has attracted national media attention: Sky News, The Guardian, The Times.
