Discrimination claims against public authorities - Tuesday 17th July 2007
This seminar will provide an introduction to the various equality duties (including race, sex and disability) which are placed upon all public authorities. It will then analyse how they can be used in order to further the interests of clients in fields as diverse as social housing, employment and police malpractice.
There will also be consideration of how judicial review can be used in conjunction with the equality duties in order to ensure compliance with good non-discrimination practice. The interaction of public law and private law remedies will be analysed as will the impact of the important and recent House of Lords decision in YL v Birmingham City Council.
