Following a review of the case, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that it intends to charge three G4S guards with manslaughter over the death of Jimmy Mubenga.
Mr Mubenga died on a plane at Heathrow airport while being restrained by detention officers employed by G4S as he was being deported in 2010. At an inquest last year, in which Henry Blaxland QC represented Mr Mubenga's family, a jury delivered a verdict of unlawful killing.
The CPS had previously decided in 2012 not to bring criminal charges. Following the inquest verdict however, they agreed to review the case in light of all of the new evidence. In a statement today they said "There is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute".
The family was supported by INQUEST.
