Garden Court Chambers, the largest barristers chambers in London, has formed a specialist International Advice and Litigation Team: Garden Court International.
The new team, headed by Richard Harvey (currently counsel in the Radovan Karadzic trial in The Hague) comprises over 40 barristers, at all levels of practice, and is one of the largest and most experienced practice teams in the UK.
The team possesses an immense amount of collective legal expertise in all areas of international practice. Between us, we have experience of working on all six continents, in challenging environments such as emerging economies, conflict and post-conflict zones, as well as across Europe and the Commonwealth. We are experienced at navigating international law from our practices here in the UK, and through acting in the international courts and at international tribunals established in other countries.
In recent years members of the team have advised and represented:
- NGOs of all sizes
- National governments
- Inter-governmental organisations
- The United Nations
- The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)
- The European Union
- The Council of Europe (CoE)
- Private individuals
- Commercial clients
Garden Court International intends to develop and build upon Garden Court's work and reputation in human rights law, and members are already international leaders in the fields of crime (including war crimes, terrorism, money laundering and serious fraud), extradition, family and child rights (including trafficking, surrogacy and abduction), immigration and nationality, minority rights (including Gypsy, Traveller and Roma rights) and post-conflict dispute resolution.
Richard Harvey said:
"International lawyers are increasingly in demand in protecting human rights, promoting a healthy environment, guaranteeing respect for humanitarian law and advising on compliance with international regulations. To meet this need, Garden Court Chambers has formed Garden Court International.
As the largest set of barristers in London, our members work individually and collectively to provide the widest range of expert advice and representation to international and regional organisations, governments, non-governmental organisations, lay and professional clients and commercial enterprises. Garden Court International members are engaged in advice and legal representation on every continent.
Garden Court has a long tradition of dedication to human rights internationally as well as at home, which we intend to build upon."
