It is with great sadness that Garden Court Chambers has learnt of the death of Sibghat Kadri QC.
Like many others, we wish to pay tribute to his fearless pursuit of justice on behalf of his clients and his life’s work challenging race discrimination, particularly in immigration and criminal law as well as in the legal profession. Kadri was a trailblazer in many respects, coming to the Bar in 1969 he was the first Pakistani Muslim to be appointed Queen’s Counsel. He was a leading force on the Bar’s Race Relations Committee and in the Society of Black Lawyers as its first Chairman.
Many members of Garden Court were fortunate to start their careers and learn their trade in his previous Chambers at 6 Kings Bench Walk. He was one of those, along with the late Ian Macdonald QC, who was at the forefront of developing immigration law as an important area of public and constitutional law.
We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues for their huge loss.
