Allison Munroe was called to the bar in 1992. She practiced at Tooks Chambers, chambers of Michael Mansfield QC until moving to Garden Court Chambers in 2013.
Allison is and always has been a phenomenally hard working and committed barrister. Her excellence unmatched.
Allison went to the University of Cambridge. Alongside some other students she started the Cambridge Black Caucas, a groundbreaking campaigning, social and support group to all BAME students. Allison’s parents came from Guyana in the 1960s, and her mum like thousands of women from the Caribbean answered the call to move to a new country to help people here and support the NHS, which she did as a midwife. Allison has 4 siblings. She was the first one in her family to get to university.
Allison has a mixed practice specialising in Family Public Law, Inquests/Inquiries, Crime and Mental Health. In all spheres of her work she has focused upon acting for vulnerable clients with a particular emphasis on the protection of their civil liberties. She represented a number of the bereaved families in the historic Hillsborough Inquests (2014-2016). Presently she represents some of the Bereaved Families in the Grenfell Tower Fire Public Inquiry, as well as survivors and residents and maintains a public law family practice.
Allison’s appointment is good news for justice.
