Garden Court Chambers is saddened to report the news that our dear friend and colleague Ben Beaumont has died. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family.
Ben had been a member of Garden Court Chambers since 2018.
Ben’s journey to the Bar was an inspiring one. He left school at 17 to become a bricklayer's assistant, then a steel fixer and then a shuttering carpenter. He continued to work as a building contractor whilst reading for the Bar, successfully qualifying and then working as a barrister.
He was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1978. In his practice, Ben built on his construction experience and specialised in domestic and international trade disputes. He regularly served as an arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator, and authored a number of books on international arbitration. In 1996, he founded the Forum for International Conciliation and Arbitration (FICAC), which was invited to join the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) as an Observer in 2002.
Ben also continued to champion charitable projects, volunteering at the East Oxford Community Centre and was a trustee of the Sunrise Multicultural Project.
