It is with great sadness that we acknowledge and remember our dear friend and colleague, Mark George KC, who passed away on 20th December 2022.
Mark was a member of Garden Court for over 25 years before moving to Garden Court North, where he had been Head of Chambers since 2013.
Mark was many things. A radical barrister with strong principles, a formidable advocate who specialised in criminal defence, an opponent of the death penalty, a life-long socialist, a student of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic Studies at Cambridge, and a supporter of Chelsea FC, Mark was above all a man of integrity who was kind, compassionate and wise. He combined a generous and gentle humanity with a fierce intellectual commitment. Whatever the case, whether defending political protesters or acting for the families at the Hillsborough Inquests, Mark gave everything he had to representing his clients fearlessly.
Mark will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family.
