Garden Court’s Special Fund is a unique source of funding within the legal profession. Every member of chambers contributes to the fund financially, in keeping with the long-standing progressive ethos of Garden Court Chambers.
Over the last 30 years, the Special Fund has donated in excess of £1.5 million to organisations undertaking legal campaigning or charitable work in defence of civil liberties, human rights and social justice.
In the latest funding round we are delighted to have extended our provision of long-term support from 15 to 20 organisations. Each long-term beneficiary receives £16,000 over a four year period (£4,000 per year) amounting to a total of £320,000 for the following beneficiaries:

- Death Penalty Project
- Friends, Families & Travellers
- Inquest
- Institute of Race Relations
- Just for Kids Law
- Migrants’ Rights Network
- Network for Police Monitoring
- Paddington Law Centre
- Public Law Project
- Reprieve
- Rights of Women
- Southall Black Sisters
- Statewatch
- War on Want
- Women in Prison
In addition, between January 2014 and May 2018, the Special Fund granted short-term funding of more than £250,000 shared amongst 122 organisations.

If you are applying for short-term funding, you can apply at any time. The next deadline for long-term funding will be 10 January 2022.
In your application for funding, please tell us about your organisation, set out in detail how the money will be spent and enclose your most recent Annual Report or statement of accounts.
