Members of Garden Court Chambers joined the demonstration on Friday against government's changes to legal aid which are preventing victims of domestic abuse from getting legal aid in family law cases.
The demonstration outside the Royal Courts of Justice was timed to coincide with the initial hearing in Rights of Women's judicial review being heard in the High Court.
Family barrister and former Rights of Women legal officer Rebekah Wilson said "At a time when society is finally acknowledging the extent and of severity of domestic violence, our government is trying to diminish the legal support which victims need in order to exit violent relationships. It takes immense courage for victims to seek support in the first place, and the new gateway system only serves to make it harder to pursue legal cases."
Permission to bring a full judicial review was granted at the end of the hearing. It is hoped that the substantive hearing will take place before the end of the year.
