Garden Court Chambers is pleased to announce that Henry Blaxland QC, Kathryn Cronin and David Watkinson have been elected as new Joint Heads of Chambers. In accordance with Garden Court's democratic constitution, Henry, Kathryn and David were elected by their fellow chambers members yesterday at their AGM.
The vacancies were brought about following the appointment of former Head of Chambers, HHJ Owen Davies QC, as a circuit judge last autumn, and following the stepping down of Courtenay Griffiths QC who continues to practise here.
Having three Heads of Chambers reflects the growing size of Chambers; with over 130 practising barristers, Garden Court is the largest set in London. The new joint leadership reflects the diversity of practice at Garden Court, with Henry being a crime practitioner, Kathryn focusing on immigration and family law issues, and David practising housing and civil law.
Speaking on the changes, David Watkinson, a founding member of Chambers, said "These are exciting new times for Garden Court Chambers. We have a leadership which truly represents the nature of Chambers as a multi-disciplinary set. It is both an honour and a pleasure to be leading one of the finest legal practices in the UK."
Senior Clerk to Chambers Colin Cook also welcomed the joint leadership. "I warmly welcome the new Heads of Chambers. Garden Court Chambers is one of the largest sets in the country and our joint leadership reflects the complexity of its stewardship in times of changing legal practice and cutbacks in legal funding. The joint leadership also reflects our multi-disciplinary practice of which Garden Court is justly proud."
Everybody in Chambers extends their sincerest thanks to HHJ Owen Davies QC and Courtenay Griffiths QC for their skilled stewardship over many years.
