New research by King's College London's (KCL) Legal Clinic has highlighted a "continued failure" by the Windrush Compensation Scheme (WCS), to deliver 'fair and accessible compensation' to victims of the Windrush scandal.
Our Joint Head of Chambers, Grace Brown is a contributor to KCL's research report ‘The Windrush Compensation Scheme: A comparative analysis’.
The research report highlights the 'absence of legal funding' for WCS claimants and states there is an ‘effective blanket refusal’ by the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) to make public funding available to WCS claimants to pursue their claims.
Our Grace Brown and Alex Schymyck are acting in an upcoming High Court challenge to the LAA's refusal to grant legal aid to a WCS claimant, instructed by Southwark Law Centre. The hearing is scheduled to take on 20 - 21 February 2024.
Grace is regularly instructed in Windrush Scheme and WCS cases. She has detailed and in-depth knowledge of the legal, cultural and other issues that arise in Windrush cases and frequently advises solicitors, community groups and organisations on these issues. She is instructed in a significant number of Windrush cases that are aimed at challenging the apparent and various inequities and failings of both the Windrush Scheme and the WCS.
