Liz Davies of Garden Court Chambers writes in June’s edition of Legal Action magazine on the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
The article “Tackling homelessness early” explores the new prevention and relief duties, which are likely to come into force in April 2018.
She comments that to be effective, those duties will require local housing authorities to make extensive use of the private rented sector and that hard-pressed local authorities, especially in London, will struggle to find accommodation that is affordable, particularly for applicants dependent on housing benefit.
