The Independent Police Complaints Commission has today announced that it has re-opened the investigation into the death of Sean Rigg. Sean Rigg died in police custody in Brixton in 2008. Following his inquest in 2012, in which his family were represented by Leslie Thomas and Tom Stoate, the jury returned a damning narrative verdict.

Following his inquest in 2012, in which his family were represented by Leslie Thomas and Tom Stoate, the jury returned a damning narrative verdict.
An editorial in The Observer in May this year called the case "a watershed moment for the police service and the IPCC", and following the inquest verdict the IPCC announced a review of its own investigation led by Dr Silvia Casale, the report of which was published in May 2013.

Leslie Thomas and Tom Stoate represented Mr Rigg's family at the inquest. They were instructed by Daniel Machover and Helen Stone of Hickman and Rose Solicitors, and were assisted by INQUEST.
