Garden Court is delighted to announce that Jan Luba QC has won Legal Aid Barrister of the Year at the recent LAPG awards ceremony. He was honoured by the LALY judges for his exceptional commitment and expertise in housing work.
Jan Luba QC commented "I am honoured and delighted to have received this award. It really means so much, precisely because it is based on what my own colleagues and clients think about me. It is "peer review" in the best sense. I am proud and privileged to have served the cause of publicly funded legal services in the housing field for over 25 years. I dedicate my award to those of my fellow specialist housing lawyers who have recently been driven out of this work (and those who shortly will be) by imminent changes to legal aid funding. They are irreplaceable and will be sorely missed - most keenly of all by the homeless and the badly housed who had desperate need of their help".
Garden Court Chambers is proud to be associated with the LALY awards and delighted that both Jan Luba QC and Desmond Rutledge were nominated. This award is recognition of the high quality work being carried out in legally aided work and a testament to the commitment, dedication and outstanding professionalism of their talents.
Congratualtions also to Sue Willman (Pierce Glynn solicitors) who has also won Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year, described by LAG as a 'tireless advocate on behalf of asylum-seekers', also writes regularly for Legal Action in 'Support for asylum-seekers and other migrants update' and is co-author of LAG's Support for Asylum-seekers: a guide to legal and welfare rights handbook.
