Garden Court's Jo Wilding has been interviewed by Libby Purves on BBC Radio 4 Midweek. In the interview, Jo tells the extraordinary story of her adventures in Iraq before, during and after the 2003 invasion.
Jo initially travelled to Iraq in 2001 and, in 2004, she set up a circus working with traumatised and internally displaced Iraqi children. Between January and April 2004 the circus performed for thousands of Iraqi children. Working in Fallujah in 2004, Jo was involved in escorting civilians out of the siege, and was briefly kidnapped.
For this work, she was co-nominated as one of the 1000 Peacewomen for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005. Jo wrote a weblog during the experience, which became a book, Don't Shoot the Clowns, which has subsequently been adapted into a play.
The interview covers all these topics and more; if you have 15 minutes to hear a fascinating story, we would heartily recommend that you listen to the interview here on BBC iPlayer.
