We are delighted to announce that John Beckley has been appointed as a District Judge.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the South Eastern Circuit, based at the Court of Protection, First Avenue House with effect from 3 April 2018.
John joined Garden Court as a pupil in 2003, got tenancy in 2004 and was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2015. He has been praised and widely endorsed by solicitors for his effective representation of vulnerable and distressed clients. He has been a valuable and much-loved member of chambers. He will be missed by all at chambers, but particularly by the housing, civil liberties and public law teams.
Liz Davies said “John has been a hugely important member of our housing team. He has appeared in a number of ground-breaking cases including cases on rights to succeed to secure tenancies, and representing the Parliament Square Garden occupiers. He has tenaciously represented clients at all levels and prevented a lot of individuals from being evicted. Garden Court will miss him and we wish him well in his new career as District Judge Beckley”.
John’s last day at chambers will be 29 March 2018.
For the official announcement see the post on the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary website.
John Beckley is currently a member of the Housing, Civil Liberties and Public Law Teams at Garden Court Chambers.
