A jury at the Central London County Court has decided that the police used unreasonable force when they set a police dog on a young man, Luke Appleyard, who was then aged 17. Mr Appleyard had been walking in a park with his friend when the dog attacked him.
The jury found that this constituted excessive force and also rejected a police account that Mr Appleyard had been running away from the police. Damages were then agreed in the sum of £13,250.
Mr Appleyard was represented by Stephen Simblet, who was instructed by David Phillips and Partners, Bootle, Merseyside.
Stephen Simblet is a member of the Garden Court Chambers Claims Against the Police and Public Authorities Team.
