We are delighted to announce that Justine Compton has been appointed as a full-time Judge in the First-tier Tribunal of the Social Entitlement Chamber.
Justine has specialised in housing law (as a solicitor and barrister) for over 20 years, often in complex homelessness cases and possession claims involving vulnerable tenants, with particular experience in anti-social behaviour matters and succession cases.
In 2019, Justine was appointed as a Deputy District Judge on the South Eastern Circuit. Justine has advised on appeals to the Upper Tribunal in respect of social security issues and has sat as a part-time Judge in the First-tier Tribunal of the Social Entitlement Chamber.
Justine was formerly a solicitor with the Community Law Partnership (admitted in 2000) specialising in Housing and Gypsy and Traveller Law. Before joining Garden Court Chambers in 2015, she practised at 1 Pump Court Chambers between 2006 -2014. During the 1990s, Justine was a housing, debt and welfare benefits adviser at Coventry, Cambridge and Warwick District Citizen Advice Bureau.
Justine will be appointed with effect from 8 April 2024. We wish her all the best in her new, full-time role as a Judge.
