Kieran Vaughan and Pete Weatherby appointed as Queen's Counsel

Garden Court Chambers is delighted to announce that Kieran Vaughan and Pete Weatherby have been appointed as Queen's Counsel today by the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.

Kieran was called to the Bar in 1993 and has practised ever since in crime. Over the past 19 years he has steadily gained experience in increasingly serious criminal defence work. Today he covers everything from terrorism cases, murders and rapes to money laundering and high-value fraud.

Pete received his call in 1992 and has a mixed practice in both criminal defence and civil rights. He is recognised as a leading expert in the field of prison law, which crosses over with his work acting at inquests for families of people who have died in police custody or in prison.

Professor Dame Joan Higgins, Chair of the QC Selection Panel, said "I am very pleased at the announcement of the 88 new Silks and I send each one of them my warmest congratulations. The quality of applicants was again extremely high."

Kieran and Pete are two of just 88 advocates to receive this prestigious award this year, out of 214 applicants. they will formally become a Silk when they make their declarations before the Lord Chancellor at a ceremony on 30 March 2012.
