The awards ceremony, held at the Haberdashers Hall on June 23rd, was sponsored by The Independent Lawyer Magazine, Legal Aid Practitioners Group and Jordan Publishing . Those shortlisted were measured by an esteemed panel of judges, including Cherie Booth QC, whose main criteria was to look for lawyers that could demonstrate a major contribution to the well-being of vulnerable clients and to the legal aid system, not only over the last twelve months but throughout their career.
There is no doubt that both David and Stephen fit this criteria, but they couldn't both take the prize and it was David's long term work in housing and in particular on behalf of Gypsies and Travellers that seemed to catch the judges eye.
Commenting on David's win, Stephen Knafler said: "Who better to lose to? A worthy winner! Second to none in housing law, David has fought up hill and down dale for Travellers over many years: Wolverhampton County Court, High Court, Pembrokeshire planning enquiry, House of Lords - he's done the lot, transformed the legal scene and is still raring to go."
He is indeed a 'worthy winner' and all at Two Garden Court Chambers are thrilled with this recognition of his hard work and commitment.
