Marc Willers appears in the High Court today, representing east London residents unhappy about their home being used as a missile battery by the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Under the plan, which residents were not consulted on, the MoD intends to site high velocity missiles on the roof of the Fred Wigg Tower during the Olympic Games.
The judicial review is being brought largely on the basis that it was agreed in secret between Waltham Forrest and the MoD. The first that residents knew of the plan was when they received leaflets through their letterboxes in April.
While both the residents and legal team recognise the government's obligation to protect the Olympic site, they maintain that ordinary citizens have the right to resist the army simply taking control of their homes. Furthermore, they are concerned at having explosive material cited directly over their heads, and are anxious that the move could make the building a target for terrorists.
Marc is instructed by Howe & Co Solicitors. Martin Howe, a partner at Howe & Co was interviewed about the case on the Islam Channel.
Marc Willers is a barrister experienced in both public and administrative law, and planning law.
