Michael Ivers QC of the Garden Court Chambers Criminal Defence Team represented the defendant. Michael led Rhiannon Crimmins of Furnival Chambers instructed by Rizvan Anwar of Arcadian Law.
Mr Bello was alleged to have stabbed the deceased Mr Bako at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham on the 21st July 2020 following an argument involving Mr Bako, his co-defendant Mohamed Khan and the main prosecution witness.
The prosecution and the co-defendant both claimed that Cesar Bello had stabbed Mr Bako, the prosecution alleging that Mr Khan was a secondary party.
Mr Bello maintained Mr Khan had stabbed the deceased following being attacked by Mr Bako. Following a three-week trial at Stafford Crown Court, he was acquitted on 27 May 2021 and the co-defendant convicted of manslaughter, the jury therefore rejected both the prosecutions’ and the co-defendants’ version of events suggesting it was Mr Bello who had stabbed the deceased.
