Lalith de Kauwe was instructed by Natasha Patel, Lloyds PR Solicitors.
The jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts on section 18 wounding with intent and section 20 unlawful wounding after a 4 day trial at Harrow Crown Court.
The defendant was a middle aged Rastafarian. He was a victim of previous violence by two young men. He was unanimously acquitted of an alleged “revenge attack” on one of the men.
He asserted that the complainant was a liar and a bully.
He claimed to have acted in self-defence and defence of his son, by disarming the complainant and striking him over the head with his own weapon.
He stated that he did not intend to cause the wound, a nasty gash to the complainant’s skull.
He stated that did not intend really serious injury.
The defence demonstrated that the prosecution had failed to conduct a proper investigation and had failed to charge the real perpetrator of the violence, namely the complainant.
